Welcome message from the Chairman of the Organizing Committee

On behalf of the Organizing Committee of the European Group of Public Administration Annual Conference, it is an honour for me to offer the Spanish National Institute of Public Administration as the venue for the European Group of Public Administration Annual Conference. For us it is gratifying to be able to help the various public administration training and research institutions join forces to strengthen the relationships and exchanges between European academics and professionals.
On the occasion of the Madrid Conference of 19-22 September 2007, I am pleased to welcome you to Madrid, where I hope you will have a pleasant and fruitful stay.
The Conference will address the question of “Public Administration and the Management of Diversity”. The debate will revolve around the main subject of “public administration as a service provider and the representation of diversity within public administration”.
In the national panel we would like to share with other States our experience of intense regional devolution over the last 30 years, and the role of central institutions in a multi-level State.
I am sure that, through everyone’s active participation in the debate and the exchange of opinions on such topical questions, we will be able to reach interesting conclusions and a better understanding of the problems involved in the management of diversity as faced by public administration today.
